A refrigerator defrost timer is a small but essential component in frost-free and automatic defrost refrigeration systems that helps regulate when the unit melts away accumulated ice. It works by cycling the refrigerator between cooling and defrost modes at timed intervals—typically every 6 to 12 hours—so that frost buildup on the evaporator coils is periodically heated and eliminated without manual intervention.
